Interested in volunteering with Indy Chess? We are currently looking for school-based volunteers. With many Title I free school programs and other fee-based programs granting as many as a dozen scholarships, volunteers allow us to maintain good student-to-coach ratios while never turning a child away from a chess program for financial need!
School volunteers are placed in a program for one-hour a week for a semester at one of our school programs supporting the lead coach(es). The position can be as flexible as you need it to be (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.). Duties can vary and can include the following: assisting checking in students to the program, leading small-groups with guidance from the lead coach, helping at workbook stations, teaching checkmates to kids that have byes in a club tournament round, and walking a small group to the afterschool care room at dismissal. School volunteers will always be accompanied by an Indy Chess employee or contractor during their assignments. Semesters typically run from mid-August to mid-December and mid-Janurary to mid-May.
Volunteers receive a free membership to Indy Chess, recognition at the Club Championship, and discounts on Indy Chess merch including a free polo shirt!
Fill out the form, and we'll contact you to schedule an interview in the next 72 hours to discuss your interest, preferences, and answer any questions. Immediate questions? Email Mike at info@indychess.org.
